CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS – The Department of Sports, Nevis, will officially launch the Nevis Cricket Academy and distribute cricket gear to all primary schools across the island on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Villa Grounds.
Held under the theme “Our Sport, Our Culture,” this landmark initiative reinforces cricket’s deep-rooted significance in Nevisian identity while strengthening grassroots development and youth engagement in the sport.
The Nevis Cricket Academy will cater to more than 100 young athletes, both male and female, between the ages of 7 and 15. The programme is designed not only to develop technical cricketing skills but also to instil essential life values such as discipline, teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship—shaping well-rounded individuals on and off the field.
In tandem with the Academy launch, every primary school across Nevis will receive fully equipped cricket gear bags. This strategic investment removes barriers to participation and empowers both teachers and students to actively engage in and expand the sport at the grassroots level.
This initiative establishes a clear and sustainable pathway from schoolyard play to structured athletic development, ensuring the continued growth and competitiveness of cricket in Nevis.
A representative from the Department of Sports Nevis emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating:
