NEW SOLAR FARM IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS COMPLETED

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 17, 2013 (SKNIS):  St. Kitts and Nevis is on the way to becoming a green country, as the first ever Solar Farm is now complete.

A ceremony is expected to take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. This new initiative comes just in time, as St. Kitts and Nevis celebrates 30 years of Independence and 30 years of Friendship between the local Government and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

According to Lenrick Lake, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy said this new farm will be beneficial to the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“This 1MW Solar Farm has been constructed to provide power for the airport,” he said. “It forms part of the Government’s initiative to see the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis become the smallest green nation in the Western Hemisphere.”

The newly completed Solar Farm is a joint venture between both the Governments of St. Kitts and Nevis (Ministry of Energy) and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

The ground-breaking ceremony for the Solar Farm was held in March of this year.
