NHCS treats St. James’s Primary School to a pizza bash after winning heritage quiz

CHARLESTOWN,Nevis, June 17, 2016St. Nevis Historical and Conservation Society(NHCS) treated eight Grade Six students from St. James’s primary school to a pizza bass on Wednesday, June 15,2016 after the school emerged winners in this year’s History and Heritage quiz.

The History and Heritage quiz is held every year. It is basically testing the knowledge of the students about the heritage and culture in Nevis. The quiz targets primary school students and the first and second form secondary school students. The quiz is coordinated by a committee at NHCS.

St. James’s primary school’s grade six teacher, Shona Jeffers said the students obtained a high score due to their consistency in reaching Echo news published by NHCS.

“Information in echo news, helped the students learn about the environment. “Echo news assisted them a great deal. We used echo news when we were practicing the quiz. Echo news also helps students answer social studies questions. Quizzes equip students to know their environment,” Jeffers said.

This year the quiz was coordinated by Danielle Moore, Eastern Caribbean Marine Managed Areas Nework(ECMMAN) Outreach Coordinator due to the quiz’s relevance to the move to have St. Kitts and Nevis protect marine life. The questions are issued to students at the beginning of a typical week.

“Students were given one week to fill all the questions and then given their submissions on the Friday before noon. The judging criteria is also based on the time students complete the questions and on which school gets the highest score,” Moore said.
