Nine matters listed for April 2015 Criminal Assizes

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- The Charlestown High Court will be buzzing with excitement on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 as the April 2015 Criminal Assizes is schedule to commence before Her Ladyship Justice Lorraine Williams.

This Assizes will witness five (5) new matters and four (4) matters that were traversed from the November 2014 Assizes.

The new matters involve two counts of (2) grievous bodily harm, two counts of (2) unlawful carnal knowledge; one (1) rape and one (1) murder.

The new murder case listed involves that of Jerome Kelvin Williams who was accused of strangling 18 year old Chazere Davis to death. This incident occurred at Maynard’s Ground, Gingerland on Monday, May 20, 2013.

Dominican Republic national, Guillermo Santana who has been incarcerated at Her Majesty’s Prison will also see his day in court. Santana has been remanded after he inflicted wounds to now deceased Cesar Pabel Santana with a machete.

It was reported that Cesar Pabel Santana was stabbed at Enrique’s Bar on Sunday, December 21, 2014 by Alexander Diaz. He succumbed to his injuries six days after the incident.

The other new matter involves Veon Sutton. He too was charged with grievous bodily harm.

The four (4) traverse matters consist of the 2008 murder of Leon ‘Gravo’ Westerman of Low Street, Charlestown. The trio, Asim Parris, Dexter Somersall and Craig Halliday were arrested and charged for this murder.

Geoffery Romany who was charged with fraudulent conversion and money laundering is also listed to be heard. In November 2014, Justice Williams had informed the Director of Public Prosecution that Romany’s matter will go to trial in April 2015 Assizes.

Details of the charges indicate that sometime between September 1, 2010 and September 20, 2011 at Charlestown, having received to an account U.S. $25,000.00 belonging to Roger Tosse, Romany allegedly spent the money for his own personal use. Additionally, between April 2, 2008 and April 10, 2012 at Charlestown, having received U.S. $161,598.00 belonging to Vector Gardner, Romany is also accused of using this money for his own personal use.

The other matters involve sexual offenses.
