NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 17, 2014) –Nevis Financial Services Department and the Nevis Investment Promotion Agency (NIPA)teamed up to acknowledged the contribution of five elders on Nevis on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Nevis as an International Financial Services Centre.
On June 17, 2014, five elders, one in each parish on Nevis, were presented with gift baskets by NIPA Director Kimone Moving and other staff, to the delight of the elders. At the end of the presentations, Moving told the Department of Information of the activities that had been planned for the commemoration.
“For two weeks we will be having some celebrations and giving back to the community. Our first event was a church thanksgiving service at the Shiloh Baptist on June 8th. Then we followed with a fun event which was a hike to the six waterfalls in Maddens on Whit Monday and today, we are here giving back to our elders who have contributed to the Nevisian society, the five oldest persons in five parishes.
“The five elders who we recognised are Mr. Herman Ward of the St. John’s Parish, Ms. Celian Powell from the St. George’s Parish, Ms. Selena Ward of St. James’, Ms. Doris Claxton of St. Paul’s and Mrs. Alice Nisbett in St. Thomas’ and these are those persons who we sort to recognise as part of our community event for our 30th anniversary,” she said.
According to Ms. Moving, the next activity would be on the weekend ahead.
“On Saturday we will have a Cocktail and Award Reception [at the Nevis Performing Arts Centre courtyard from 7:30 p.m.], where we will commemorate persons who have contributed to the Financial Industry over the years, the service providers and also the staff within the Department.
“We will culminate the events with a Financial Expo at the D. R. Walwyn Square on Friday June 27th and we are inviting the general public to come out and share with us and ask any questions you may have about the Financial Services Industry and learn about our history,” she explained.
A number of financial tips have been aired on local radio stations for the month of June and a commemorative magazine will be presented.
The Nevis Financial Services Department in the Nevis Island Administration has responsibility for for licensing and incorporating international companies. It also monitors and oversees service providers, credit unions, money service businesses, international insurance business, Mutual Fund Administration and Multiform Foundations.
NIPA on the other hand, has responsibility for promoting and attracting investment opportunities into Nevis, to stimulate economic growth in the areas of International Financial Services, Agriculture, Information Communication Technology, Energy and to a lesser extent, Tourism.
