OECS spokespersons to learn to communicate key messages at seminar in Grenada

CASTRIES, St Lucia — The OECS Secretariat’s Regional Integration Unit (RIU) will be conducting a second seminar of spokespersons for the OECS Economic Union from October 9 to 11, 2013, to further help in communicating the benefits implications, and opportunities of the union to the people of the region.

Grenada will host the two-day training workshop, which is specifically designed for middle and senior level officers representing ministries of labour, finance, trade, immigration planning, information, environment and small businesses from the Windward Islands member states of the OECS.

Participants from the OECS member states of Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines will attend this workshop.

The two training days will cover communication and advocacy planning, key message development and spokesperson training. It will be supplemented with a full day of plenary sessions in which participants directly engage a high level technical team from the OECS Secretariat, to apply the knowledge in the context of Integration and the economic union.

Two spokespersons training workshops and six country missions by the OECS RIU are now in train to run until November this year. Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia as well as St Vincent and the Grenadines are the members states scheduled for these country missions, during which the OECS RIU will engage with business, media, school-based, and community based groupings to share Integration milestones and clarify the processes, opportunities and developments within the economic union.

The first mission and training workshop was successfully undertaken in Antigua and Barbuda in September 2013.
