OECS Tourism Ministers Discuss Ways to Deal with Geopolitical Climate; Urge Proactive Measures

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Tourism Hon. Marsha T. Henderson on Thursday called for structured collective action in moving the regional industry forward in the new geopolitical climate.

Addressing the 9th Meeting of the OECS Council of Ministers as the new chair, tourism minister Henderson noted the industry is of paramount importance to the member islands of the OECS.

“We are called to focus on matters that require collective action and shared solutions, including: Streamlining the movement of people, Harmonising standards and policies, and Leveraging regional intelligence and shared data,” she told delegates and stakeholders.

Recognising that the tourism industry faces unprecedented structural pressures from geopolitical uncertainty to climate volatility, Tourism ministers are convening to transition from reactive measures to proactive, structural collective action.
