One person in police custody to assist with the investigation in the death of Tayan ‘Mackabe’ Wilkin

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- This media house has learnt that one person is currently in police custody assisting police officers with investigation of the murder of Tayan ‘Mackabe’ Wilkin of Newcastle Village.

It is alleged that the person who has been arrested was in an altercation with the deceased at the St. James Drag Race Track some hours before the tragic incident.

According to a police report, Police officers of the Violent Crime Unit (VCU), CID, Task Force, Crime Scene Unit (CSU), and other police officers responded to a shooting incident at Cottle Long Path about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2013, which resulted in one person fatally wounded.

Information surrounding this incident is still sketchy as many persons are still asking the question ‘what really happened?’ No accurate information is being given as to how many persons were inside the vehicle, who was inside the vehicle or who actually was driving the vehicle. However, it is alleged that the persons inside the vehicle jumped out and ran after shots were being fired. However, Tayan was unable to escape his attacker(s).

When persons arrived on the scene Tayan was found inside the vehicle laid back and unresponsive. It is said that he was shot in his head.

His death marks the ninth murder for the year. For these nine murders only two persons have been charged and is currently remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Additionally, police officers early this morning, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 raided a home in Rawlins Village, Gingerland and a number of persons were detained for possession of cannabis.
