Hon. Konris Maynard: The West Basseterre Trendsetter
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the people of constituency number three on St. Kitts “won big” when Hon. Konris Maynard responded to the people’s call to become one of the nation’s leaders.
Konris, who had long been popular on the cultural front as “King Konris”, one of the best calypsonians the Federation has ever seen, took his positive influence on the populous to new heights when he entered the political arena. This was evident by his resounding victory at the polls in the very first election he contested in 2015.
Despite the fact that he made it look easy, Konris’ contesting of constituency number three was no easy feat. As the seat had been consistently won by a former member of the Labour Party for four consecutive election cycles, it was intensely hard work, his natural ability to foster a spirit of camaraderie among the people, his love of conversation, and his drive for youth empowerment that enabled him to emerge victorious, winning the seat with poll numbers the previous Labour Party candidate had never before seen.
Aside from Konris’ diligence and perseverance, his determination to give his constituency a representative who placed their needs and interests far ahead of his own resonated deeply, especially with his youngest supporters. His firm push for youth education and empowerment and his advocacy on behalf of the young and upcoming generations of leaders has also netted him immense admiration and additional support, even throughout the Caribbean region.
Unfazed by his Party being in opposition, Konris continually advocates and deliberates in the Parliament on behalf of his constituents, ensuring that the government is fully aware of their needs and interests. Though his capabilities are hampered as a Parliamentarian in Opposition with a government lacking in care and attention, Konris has continued to utilise his resources to provide all that he can, giving freely of himself to his constituents.
The path Konris has blazed through our political arena is one that serves as a shining example to our Federation’s youth that hard work, dedication, commitment, and genuine love for people and country are the personal qualities necessary to advance one’s country and by default, one’s self.
