Plans In Place For Leewards Masters’ Tournament

One of the main organizers on the ground for the upcoming Leeward Islands Masters’ tournament, Franklyn KUT Daniel gave an update on Monday, as regards preparations for the hosting of the annual Leeward Islands masters’ tournament.

He noted that everything is pretty much in place and stated that the visiting teams have all booked accommodations, except for St.Kitts which is still finalizing such.

The tournament will be played in Nevis from the 6th to 8th June. Matches will be played on all three days and teams will arrive in Nevis on the 5th of June. The two main venues to be utilized will be the ET Willet Park and the Cotton Ground Playing field.

The teams that will be participating this year are:
Host team and defending champions, Nevis; St.Kitts; St.Croix; Antigua; St.Maarten; Anguilla and St.Thomas.
In terms of the preparations of the home team, Daniel indicated that a squad is currently in training and that the local Masters team would have already played one practice match versus the Nevis under 10’s last Friday.
‘We lost that match but the fellas played well. We had some players missing and so am confident that when we play against them again this coming Friday, I know that we will take care of them.’

Daniel also indicated that the weekend events will begin with a welcoming reception and cocktail for the players and invitees, sponsored by the Nevis Island Administration.

He also noted that the visiting players will be highly entertained as this is the same weekend that the St.James’ Parish will be hosting its WINFES’ activities.

As regards the defence of the trophy that the home team won so handsomely last year?
‘Oh that goes without saying. We intend to retain the championship. That is our intention,’ he said confidently.
