BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — Member of Parliament for St. Christopher 8 and Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Terrance M. Drew, has reaffirmed his commitment to the continued transformation of Conaree.

“We are well on our way to transforming this community,” said Dr Drew at a public meeting last Thursday night.

He noted that the residents of Conaree are hardworking people and highlighted the areas of fishing, farming, heavy equipment operation, and construction in which they have excelled.

“The investment in Conaree by the previous [Team Unity Government] was dismal, and Conaree was not high on the priority list of the last administration. Hardly any significant development had taken place to move the community from one level to the next. Conaree was left behind,” Dr Drew stated.

Dr. Drew said that since becoming a Member of Parliament, young people from Conaree have been employed by his administration and now hold positions at Government Headquarters, including the Office of the Prime Minister.

He added that the Conaree Community Centre has been renovated, refurbished, painted, and properly fenced. “It is now named after two Conaree icons — the late Desmond Hobson-Tyson and the caretaker, Mrs Browne.”

Roads and drainage, which had been neglected for years, have also seen significant improvements since he became the parliamentary representative.

The playground, which was previously in a deplorable state, has been refurbished, with the work carried out by residents of Conaree.

Dr Drew also announced that land near the church has been exchanged to facilitate the construction of a Health Centre for Conaree. Additionally, land is now available to provide approximately 25 housing lots for residents of the community.
