PM HARRIS STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH ST. KITTS DIABETES ASSOCIATION ON WORLD DIABETES DAY

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 16, 2015 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, on Saturday, November 14, 2015, participated in a health walk that was organized by the St. Kitts Diabetes Association with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyle choices in order to prevent and manage the chronic non-communicable disease (NCD) of diabetes.

Briefly addressing the crowd of participants who journeyed from the War Memorial to the RAMS parking lot in Bird Rock and back, Prime Minister Harris thanked the St. Kitts Diabetes Association for its work in advocating a healthy life style.

Continuing to express gratitude, the Federation’s Prime Minister, commended Minister of State with responsibility for the Ministry of Health, the Honourable Wendy Phipps, for supporting and participating in the walk.

Prime Minister Harris underscored the importance of such event saying, “all of us understand that diabetes is a challenge and yet through these kinds of exercises organized by the St. Kitts Diabetes Association, through greater consciousness, through better lifestyle and better habits, we certainly can control and lead very healthy lives. This exercise was a good one.”

Directly addressing the youth, Prime Minister Harris explained that “lifestyle does in fact matter and the earlier we start getting it right with what we eat, getting it right in terms of our own physical activity and keeping not just the body well but being mentally attuned, the healthier we will be for the rest of our lives.”
