PM Harris wants us to succeed in our fight against crime, says Nevis Divisional officer

CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, May 29, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — The recent meeting which Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, held with members of Division C (Nevis) of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has motivated the officers to go above and beyond the call of duty.

According to the Nevis Divisional Officer, Superintendent Trevor Mills, the meeting held on Wednesday May 23 was timely as the Prime Minister’s remarks were motivational, educational, and helpful to the officers in the Nevis Division. The officers found the face-to-face interaction helpful as they asked questions and made suggestions which the Prime Minister was able respond to and give positive feedback.

“It is actually an indication that the Prime Minister has the police officers at heart, and wants us to succeed in our fight against crime and violence,” noted Superintendent Mills. “He has provided tremendous support and the tools necessary for us to achieve our goals and objectives.”

The Nevis Divisional Officer added: “Prime Minister at the time highly commended the officers in the Nevis Division for our recent success in apprehending two suspects in the robbery at Mem’s Pizzeria in Prospect. This speaks well for the officers in the Nevis Division. It is encouraging that officers will do more and at the same time continue to go above and beyond the call of duty.”

Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr Harris, mentioned issues that were accepted by the officers, especially as it relates to housing for the officers, the increase of transportation and displacement allowances, and his commitment to continue the overtime payment. Superintendent Mills noted these were readily accepted by the officers, and added that he was sure the officers will take advantage of them.

The officers were also informed by the Prime Minister of the introduction of a phycologist who has been assigned to the Police Force. This is a historic move where Government has assigned a phycologist on a full time basis to support the Police. Superintendent Mills noted that the phycologist will be coming over to the Nevis Division and the officers will take advantage of her services as well.

“It was a very good visit and the officers are excited about it,” said Superintendent Mills. “I as the Divisional Officer I am happy that he came because officers, once they are comfortable, once they are hearing things that will benefit them, that should make them comfortable. They will go the extra mile and do more so that we could see officers going above and beyond the call of duty.”

In his closing remarks, Superintendent Mills said: “I really want to thank Dr Harris for what he is doing for the police in Nevis and the Federation on a whole. He has done well for the police and I want to thank him very much, and I just want the officers to continue to support all of his initiatives – all that he is doing – so that we could make the Federation a much better place, a safer place for visitors and residents alike.”
