Police Press Release : Disguises in Public are Not a Joke; They’re an Offence

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has been made aware of a recent incident involving an individual dressed in a “ghost nun” costume, walking through neighbourhoods and entering a primary school.

While this may have been intended as a pre-Halloween prank, it has caused unnecessary alarm and violates local law.

Under Part 3, Section 8 (5) and (7) of the “Small Charges Act,” it is an offence to wear a mask or have one in a public place without a lawful excuse, except during Carnival or Culturama.

Each of these offences carries a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment for up to one year.

We ask the individual involved (and anyone considering similar acts) to cease immediately.

The RSCNPF appreciates public creativity and humour, but such actions must not cause fear or distress or violate the law.
Stay safe. Stay lawful.
