Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 09, 2015 (SKNIS): Scores of residents joined in the celebration of World Post Day on Friday (October 09) as the General Post Office (GPO) in St. Kitts and the main branch in Nevis launched its new United States mailbox service and told customers how much they are appreciated.
Lively music, light refreshments and giveaways were part of the recognition of patrons who continue to access the postal service. Nicole Agard, of the Basseterre Post Office, said she was pleased with the turnout of the public who came to celebrate World Post Day. She said that the occasion is marked annually in 150 countries around the world and is often used to highlight the current services of post offices and introduce new ones.
“Post offices worldwide do play a very important role in the economic activity of countries,” Ms. Agard noted, pointing out mail and package delivery that many companies and individuals still depend on. As such, she said they remain relevant.
Organizers also highlighted their sensitivity to issues in the community and outfitted the post office spaces with decorations featuring the familiar pink ribbon symbol used to promote breast cancer awareness.
The customer appreciation activity received commendation from a number of patrons who said they were pleased to see the GPO continue to diversify to serve the public better. Individuals interested in signing up for the US Mailbox Service can do so at the post office free of cost up until November 09.
