The letter which doubles as an invitation also reads “I take this opportunity now to formally extend to you an invitation for and on behalf of the people of Nevis to visit with us for the celebration of our 30th anniversary of independence on 19th September, 2013. Your presence here would mean a lot to our citizens and would be a great tribute to your Nevisian ancestry.”

The Premier’s invitation comes on the heels of a recent meeting between Tyson and Deputy Premier and Minister of Culture Hon. Mark Brantley, who visited New York during the time of Tyson’s performance in “Trip to Bountiful.” Brantley also congratulated her on her award-winning performance.

Cicely Tyson’s parents were originally from Gingerland, Nevis but migrated to New York.
