BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — History has been made in Saint Kitts and Nevis with the production of the first locally manufactured water tank.

“Today, I am proud to announce that the first water tank ever manufactured in our Federation is now complete,” stated Prime Minister Terrance M. Drew in a social media post.

Dr Drew, who indicated that he will visit the manufacturing plant in Cayon on Wednesday to observe operations firsthand, said the completion of the first 1,000-gallon tank represents a significant national milestone.

“This facility will not only support our domestic needs but will also export to neighbouring countries, contributing to improved water access across the region,” he added.

The Prime Minister emphasised that, in the face of climate change and increased development, water supply has become more unpredictable.

“This requires a deliberate, multi-pronged, and sustained response,” he said.

Reflecting on efforts since taking office in August 2022, Dr. Drew noted that reliable water access has long been a challenge for residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“We have drilled wells, constructed new storage tanks in Cayon, upgraded pipelines, and invested over $60 million in a two-million-gallon desalination plant in Basseterre. We also moved decisively to strengthen long-term capacity by facilitating the establishment of a water tank manufacturing facility in the new Cayon Industrial Zone,” Dr. Drew stated.
