The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force wishes to inform the public that the use or possession of radar jammers, devices that interfere with police speed-detection equipment, is strictly prohibited under the Telecommunications Act, Cap. 16.05.
These devices operate by transmitting signals that disrupt authorised communications or electronic equipment, and such interference constitutes a criminal offence.
Section 39 of the Telecommunications Act makes it unlawful to use, install, or operate any radio-communication device without authorisation, or to cause harmful interference to licensed services. Persons found operating or importing radar jammers may therefore face prosecution, confiscation of the device, and other penalties as prescribed by law.
Motorists are further advised that while radar detectors (which only receive signals) are not expressly prohibited under the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, their use for evading lawful enforcement undermines road safety and will be treated as obstructive conduct under relevant legislation.
The Force urges all drivers to comply with posted speed limits, operate within the law, and support our collective efforts to reduce road fatalities caused by excessive speed.
