The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force wishes to advise the public that the Inland Revenue Department’s Tax Administration System (SMARTS) experienced technical difficulties earlier today, Wednesday, September 30, 2026, which have prevented the processing of Wheel Tax and Driver’s Licence transactions as of 11:00 a.m.
The following persons are directly affected by this disruption:
🔹 Vehicle owners whose registration numbers end in the digit 9 (whose Wheel Tax renewals fall due in September); and
🔹 Drivers whose licences expired in September 2026 and who have not yet been able to complete their renewal.
The RSCNPF assures affected motorists that prosecution for non-compliance will be deferred while the system remains unavailable.
The IRD has advised that it expects to restore full processing capability by Thursday, October 1, 2026, at which time affected persons should complete their renewals promptly.
The public will be informed once the system has been restored and normal enforcement resumes.
We thank the public for their patience and cooperation.
