BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – It was a major disappointment for cricket enthusiasts who gathered at Warner Park on Sunday, August 30, for the highly anticipated Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match between the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots and the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons.
Despite earlier concerns about Tropical Storm Dolly passing over the Leeward Islands and an active flash flood watch through midday, fans—including a dedicated contingent travelling from Nevis—remained optimistic. Before departure, organisers assured supporters that the pitch and outfield were in excellent condition and the match was set to proceed as planned.
However, shortly before the scheduled toss, a severe downpour saturated the grounds. Despite the best efforts of the venue staff, the continuous rain forced match officials to officially abandon the fixture without a single ball being bowled.
Nevisian fans made the damp journey home, sorely disappointed, after the sudden turn in the weather spoiled what had promised to be an electric evening of CPL action.
The Patriots will look to rebound as action at Warner Park continues on Tuesday, September 1, against the Barbados Trident. Supporters across the twin-island federation remain hopeful for clearer skies and full play.
