RED HOUSE CHAMPIONS AT ST.JAMES’ SPORTS MEET

Despite having a small roll of students, the St.James’ Primary school’s annual sports meet proved to be a very exciting one.

The meet was held at the school’s ground on Tuesday 8th March, under the distinguished patronage of past student and outstanding athlete, Miss Hyacinth Pemberton. She is currently the manager of the local branch of the St.Kitts and Nevis Development Bank.

Overcast conditions did not prevent the meet from getting off to an impressive start with the three houses Red, Green and Gold participating in the march past.

Unlike most of the other schools, the children exhibited rare camaraderie even at the starting line. Talking and joking with each other and then getting more serious as the actual races started.

They competed in the 400; 800; 100; 60 and 80 meters; sack races; lime and spoon; fill the bucket and the 4X100 and the 4X200 meters events.

Tiana Liburd, the sister of the more famed Tahj Liburd, a former outstanding athlete of the school, was the stand out athlete on the day.

The fair sized crowd was well and truly entertained.

At the end of the day, the final results were:

Red house-257 points-champions

Green house 232 points-second

Gold house -188 points-third
