The annual sports meet of the Gingerland Secondary School was held on Thursday 25th February at the Gingerland Recreation Grounds.

The celebrity patron of the day was Miss Ornette Smithen-Hendrickson, who was a past outstanding athlete at the school and who incidentally still holds one or two records on the school’s books.

The meet commenced with an impressive march past and then the athletes fiercely competed in the 400; 800; 1500; 100; 200; 4X100 and 4X400 meters races, which all served to thrill the large and enthusiastic crowd.

The ultimate star of the day was Leroy Chapman who had previously established a new record in the cross country event for senior boys and on the big day, stormed the track to establish a new record in the 400 and 100 meters events for senior boys and was off the 800 meters record by a mere second.

Other outstanding performers on the day, included; Zwena Jones; Zario Chumney; Schadona Liburd; Annique Jeffers and Tangela Dunrod.

At the end of the day, the final point standings were as follows:
Red house-297 points-champions
Green house 232 points
Blue house 157 points
