REFOCUSING THE ECONOMIC THRUST OF ST. KITTS AND NEVIS IS A PRIORITY FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, SAYS PREMIER AMORY

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 26, 2015 (SKNIS): A major priority of the Federal Government is to refocus the economic thrust of St. Kitts and Nevis says, the Honourable Vance Amory, Premier of Nevis and Senior Minister in the Federal Cabinet, while talking on the “Working for You” radio programme last week.

“I think it is important that we look at the new programmes, the new development thrust for the economy, so that we can have increased employment,” said Premier Amory. “Similarly on the other side of the divide on Nevis, we have to ensure that we continue to promote and attract investment for St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Premier Amory said that by attracting investments the Federation can create long-term employment.

“This is what we want for our people, as this is something that the Federation can and will benefit from,” he said, while adding that other services need to be provided, whether it is in health, education or other critical fields.

Senior Minister Amory touched on the issue at the Basseterre High School (BHS), noting that it was among Government’s major priorities.

“The near resolution of the Basseterre High School shows that this Government took a serious look at the BHS problem,” he said. “If we were to do a poll in St. Kitts, I think the people are generally happy with the steps the Government has taken.”

Premier Amory said that steps taken to rectify the BHS situation came out of another discussion with all partners involved so that they can arrive at the best solution.

“We are not there yet at the final solution,” he said. “But I think having started this term in the way we have started, I think that the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and primarily of St. Kitts, can feel that the Government of National Unity made an effort to deal with the problem.”
