Returning Saint Lucians desirous of investing in the country

CASTRIES, Saint Lucia — The political leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Allen Chastanet, and deputy political leader Gale Rigobert have returned to Saint Lucia from London where, among other engagements, they held a highly successful meeting with the Saint Lucian Diaspora living in the United Kingdom.

The dialogue focused on issues of public safety, affordable quality healthcare, education and the current Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration’s foreign affairs posture and its implications for Saint Lucia’s relations with traditional friends and partners in the international community.

Some of the issues raised by the Diaspora included access to affordable health insurance in Saint Lucia, personal public safety, relaxation of the stringent banking rules for returning residents, and offering special incentives for Saint Lucians desirous of investing in Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucians living in the UK were encouraged to participate more fully in the political process by forming a party support group. This will afford them a more direct involvement in the decision making process of the party and allow them a platform for advancing their concerns and form policies accordingly.

The London meeting is the first in a series of such meetings to be held over the next few months in various cities where there are large enclaves of Saint Lucians.
