Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Rotary Club of Liamuiga and Rotary Club of St. Kitts extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to all persons who assisted, donated and volunteered to aid Dominica.
On Saturday August 29, 2015, both Rotary Clubs spearheaded a relief aid effort for the Commonwealth of Dominica in the aftermath of the destruction that island suffered following the passage of Tropical Storm Erika on August 27, 2015.
“Our Rotary Clubs are truly grateful for the outpouring of donations from our civic-minded residents, non-governmental organisations and the corporate community,” said Tuffida Stewart, President of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga. “It was only on that Saturday morning we learned that a vessel was in
St. Maarten and heading back to Dominica later that evening. We asked the captain to make the detour to St. Kitts and they obliged.”
Estimates of supplies sent include, but are not limited to, 16,000 bottles of water, 1,600 packets of Crackers, 600 rolls of toilet paper, 600 bars of soap, 1200 cans of Vienna sausages, 600 tins of sardines, 27 mattresses, kitchen utensils, pots, pans, juices, other toiletries, clothing, shoes and more. A total of four (4) full flatbed trucks of cargo were collected in less than 12 hours.
