Basseterre, St. Kitts – August 27, 2025, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF), through its Anti-Narcotics Unit, carried out a major contraband destruction exercise, eliminating thousands of cannabis plants through controlled burning.
The operation underscores the RSCNPF’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding communities, dismantling the illegal drug trade, and ensuring that harmful substances never make their way back onto the streets. Authorities reaffirmed that such actions are part of wider efforts to create safer neighbourhoods, protect the nation’s future, and send a clear message that crime will not prevail in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Public Reminder on Cannabis Legislation
The RSCNPF reminds the public of the provisions under the Drugs (Prevention & Abatement of the Misuse and Abuse of Drugs) Act, Cap. 9.08, as amended by the Drugs (Amendment) Act, No. 12 of 2023:
Individuals may legally possess up to 56 grams of cannabis or 15 grams of cannabis resin strictly for personal use.
Each household may cultivate up to five (5) cannabis plants, provided they are kept in a secured area and used only for personal purposes.
Any quantity beyond these limits, or intended for sale or trafficking, remains illegal.
Police confirmed that no narcotics were included in this destruction exercise.
