Runako Morton/TDC Primary Schools’ Cricket Tournament Bowls Off

On Monday, 23rd June, a very significant ceremony took place at the ET Willet Park.

On that day, the annual Runako Morton/TDC-sponsored Primary Schools Cricket tournament bowled off with a very impressive opening ceremony.

The proceedings were ably chaired by former West Indies player Carl Tuckett, who noted that the organising committee had dubbed this year’s tournament with a catchy phrase:

“Pomp and pageantry, Runako Morton TDC Primary Schools’ cricket 30.

Also making remarks was Director of Sports, Aljay Newton, who equated the thirty years of sponsorship by TDC as a triple century.

Principal Education Officer, Londa Browne, urged the young cricketers to extol virtues such as kindness, sportsmanship and honesty.

TDC representative Tyrone Hendrickson noted that his institution was happy to facilitate such a tournament, which will assist the young boys and girls in learning many life skills.

Minister of Sports, Hon. Troy Liburd, reminded the young cricketers that Nevis has a rich history of cricketing talent, having already placed no fewer than seven players on the West Indies team.

He urged them to continue the tradition before officially declaring the tournament open.

Also included on the program were: Prayer by Devondre Hendrickson; national anthem by K’Lanyah Stevens; officials’ oath by Marcus Dubbery and players’ oath by Malia Blake.

The participating schools this year are: Ivor Walters Primary-defending champions, VOJN Primary, Charlestown Primary, Joycelyn Liburd Primary, St. Thomas’ Primary, Elizabeth Pemberton Primary, Maude Cross Preparatory and St. James’ Primary.

Matches scheduled for today-Wednesday 25th March:

9.30 am-St. James v Ivor Walters

1.15 pm-Maude Cross v Joycelyn Liburd
