BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — In observance of World Food Day 2026, Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Samal Duggins, underscored the importance of eating what we grow and growing what we eat.
“Every effort to grow more of what we eat helps build a more resilient and food-secure St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Duggins, who visited the Department of Agriculture, where members of the public were able to access seedlings free of charge.
Through the Community and Home Gardening Initiative and National Seedling Distribution, the Ministry brought the message of food security directly to the community. The initiative provided individuals and families with free seedlings and an opportunity to learn more about how home and community gardening can contribute to increased local food production.
“Whether it is a backyard, a small garden space, or just a few containers, every effort to grow more of what we eat helps build a more resilient and food-secure St. Kitts and Nevis,” Duggins said.
He noted that the Community and Home Gardening Initiative and National Seedling Distribution served as a reminder that “food security is not only a national responsibility; it is something we can all contribute to, one seedling, one garden, and one household at a time.”
