Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 02, 2015 (SKNIS)—Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for St. Christopher 5, the Honourable Shawn Richards, announced some major initiatives that are expected to start in his constituency to address some of the needs of the residents.
Speaking on the weekly radio programme “Working For You”, Minister Richards said there are plans for a new Sandy Point Recreational Ground as well as for the construction of a new facility to house the fire station, police station and courthouse in Sandy Point.
“As a matter of fact, to the best of my knowledge, the site for the new courthouse, police station, fire station has already been identified; it is in the Crab Hill/Bouncing Hill areas. I also understand that the Government of Mexico has also agreed to provide the necessary financing for the erection of that building, so sometime very soon, very shortly, we can see work beginning for that particular facility,” Richards said.
The MP said getting a new Sandy Point Recreational Grounds has been a sore point for residents in the area for quite some time and he is committed to finding a solution to this issue.
“I have given the assurance to the people of Sandy Point that that recreational ground will be fully developed. As a matter of fact, if you go to Sandy Point right now, we are doing work on even the old recreational ground, which has been neglected but which has become the home for football in Sandy Point,” Mr. Richards said, adding that proper lighting will be installed at the new recreational ground.
The Member of Parliament also raised the issue that materials laid for the construction of a tennis court in Sandy Point under the previous administration was insufficient and he would have this matter addressed.
In the meantime, Minister Richards disclosed that an amusement park that was located in Frigate Bay will be relocated to Sandy Point.
“The owner decided to get out of that particular business and he has generously donated all of the items which were there to the Government in particular to be used at the new Sandy Point Recreation Ground and work has already begun to ensure that not just the children of constituency number 5, Sandy Point, but all children would be able to come and utilize the stuff there in what would be that amusement park for children,” Minister Richards said.
