Charlestown-Nevis-Tuesday 2nd July was a very significant one in the lives of three teen aged moms on Nevis.
At a brief but very important ceremony, held at the Communications Department of the Ministry of Social Development, Coordinator in the Gender Affairs Department, Mrs. Ivorcia Hanley-Browne, handed over cheques of undisclosed amounts to the three teen aged mothers with the stated purpose of assisting them in furthering their education.
Mrs. Hanley-Browne noted that the three young ladies were part of the Social Services department’s second chance teen mothers program.
She stated that over the years, the group which is being ably assisted by a group of individuals who prefer to remain anonymous, provide skills training for the young mothers and provide them with food and other grocery items.
However, she said that this year, they decided to do something different and therefore with the assistance of the anonymous donors, a scholarship fund was arranged to assist the three young ladies who have decided to upgrade themselves educationally.
The three young women are: Shaquila Walters who will be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.
Lorencia Dore who will be pursuing a course in cooking at AVEC.
Amy Williams who will be pursuing a course in Teacher’s education at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant college.
The three young ladies expressed gratitude to Mrs. Hanley-Browne and the entire membership of the teen mothers program and to the Social Services Department and vowed to do their best in order to be successful in their specific courses of study.
