(GINGERLAND, NEVIS)- A brief but significant ceremony was held at the home of Raymond and Glenda Maynard of Hanley’s Road Gingerland, on Tuesday, June 22, 2015.

That is when the Single Parents’ Support Group, led by Coordinator, Mrs. Grace Manners, donated an undisclosed sum of money to Mrs. Glenda Maynard, to aid with the health care cause of her sick husband, Raymond.

Member of the group, Mrs. Rhonda Williams in explaining the objectives of the group, pointed out that the group seeks to assist children of single parents’ homes and also the sick and needy within the various communities of Nevis.

She appealed to interested persons to become a part of the group and made a special appeal to the males in the society.

‘We need males in the group,’ she urged. She indicated that the group meets at their home base at the Social Services Department, every third Monday in the month.

She also sought the general public’s assistance in their fund raising efforts. ‘We don’t just raise funds and pocket the money. We help people,’ she stated.

Another member of the group, Ms Gloria Pemberton handed the envelope with the cheque to Mrs. Maynard who in her response thanked the group for the timely donation.

Raymond Maynard fell sometime in June last year, while working on a construction site and had to be flown to Puerto Rico for emergency care. It was during the period that he was hospitalized that several complications were discovered, including the fact that he has prostate cancer.

He has since returned home but requires constant care, as he is now bed ridden.

His wife Glenda indicated that she has actually taken time off from work to care for her husband and used the opportunity to thank the entire general public for their prayers, financial assistance and general well wishes.
