Charlestown-Nevis—A brief ceremony was held at the at the Social Services department on Wednesday 2nd September.

The ceremony was chaired by coordinator of the single parents support group, Mrs. Grace Manners.

She explained that the purpose of the gathering was for the group to make its annual donation to students identified for their ongoing scholarship program.
Group representative, Mrs. Rhonda Forbes-Williams elaborated on the workings of the group and noted that donations made were obtained by the dint of hard work, mainly through fund raising efforts and by contributions from well meaning citizens and friends.

She encouraged eligible persons within the community to become members of the group and specially made a call for males to join as well.
She also pointed out that donations from members of the community are also highly appreciated.

The scholarship awards were presented by group representative, Miss Verline Pemberton who presented to the two fortunate students identified for this year:
Shaquania Jones of the Elizabeth Pemberton Primary School and Tarika Edwards of the Jocelyn Liburd Primary School.

The mothers of the two students also took time out to thank the members of the single parents’ group for their generosity and pledged that their children will use the timely gifts well and will excel academically.
The bag of goodies contained uniforms, exercise books, pencils, shoes, socks, lunch bags and school bags.

Mrs. Manners also gave thanks to the general public for their kind donations and a special note of thanks was extended to another significant donor, Mr. Earl Browne.
