GEORGETOWN, Guyana, May 13 2016 – Guyana police have detained six teenagers in connection with the murder of former university professor Perry Mars, whose body was found tied up at his home in Prashad Nagar on Thursday night.
“We have arrested the suspects and they are cooperating with the investigators,” said the head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum.
Blanhum said that the four males and two females were taken into custody in neighbouring Sophia and the “items stolen from the victim have been recovered”.
Police said the body of Mars, 75, the Guyana-born American professor was found by his wife bound and gagged in his study at about 7:00 pm on Thursday.
Investigators said they were told that several people were seen leaving Mars’ home with a number of suitcases that they loaded in a car.
