BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – The St. Kitts Electricity Company Ltd. (SKELEC) has branded as “false” information circulating on social media regarding an alleged disconnection incident involving the company.
“SKELEC categorically states that these reports are false. SKELEC does not conduct electricity disconnections on weekends, and no SKELEC employee has sustained the injuries alleged in the circulating reports,” the company said in a statement issued on Friday.
SKELEC has advised members of the public “to verify information before sharing it online. We also invite media houses, bloggers, content creators, and the general public to contact our Corporate Communications Unit to verify information before publishing or reposting reports involving the company.”
The company also reaffirmed its commitment “to transparency and open communication and will continue to provide official updates through its verified communication channels whenever necessary.”
Expressing appreciation for the public’s continued support in helping to prevent the spread of misinformation, SKELEC again reaffirmed its commitment “to transparency and will continue to provide accurate and timely information through its official communication channels whenever necessary.”
