SKN Junior Swim Team Off to OECS Championship

Some fourteen youthful swimmers, accompanied by Coaches and some parents, left the Oualie pier on Wednesday 8th November, en route to St. Kitts, where they were scheduled to join six other young swimmers, forming the overall contingent which was set to fly out to St. Lucia later that day, to participate in the OECS Junior Swimming championship, scheduled for 10th to 12th November.

In a brief ceremony ably chaired by Permanent Secretary of Sports et al, Mr. Kevin Barrett, the swimmers received a warm send-off.

One of the coaches, Danielle Connor noted that the team was selected after much training, competition and general preparation and opined that they would bring back medals and trophies.

Hon. Troy Liburd did not miss the point that last year, only three swimmers were selected to participate in the prestigious event and that number has risen significantly this year to twenty-one, with fourteen out of Nevis, with an additional senior swimmers in Jennifer Harding-Marlin, who will compete in the 18 and over age category.

He wished them well and vowed to follow the live stream of the event, challenging them to do their best.
The contingent then departed for St. Kitts via the islander boating service.
