Speaking of walking in the footsteps of their dads:

Leeward Islands under 19 players, Saeed Williams and Ross Powell, created history on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 when they featured in an amazing opening partnership for their school, the Charlestown Secondary School, as they engaged the Basseterre Secondary School, in the annual Federation Secondary Schools Cricket League, played in St.Kitts and Nevis.

The match was played at the Conaree playing field in St.Kitts.

Saeed is the son of one of Nevis’ former test cricketers and now Assistant Coach of the West Indies team, Stuart Williams and Ross is the son of former Leeward Islands allrounder, Ronald Powell. Both youngsters would have figured in major partnerships they started their early years of Cricket at the Charlestown Primary School.

Captain Ross Powell won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked like a BELTER of a track.

He teamed up with Saeed Williams in an amazing record breaking partnership of 292 for no loss in just 35 overs. The pair batted elegantly and aggressively to destroy the Basseterre Secondary school’s bowling attack; pounding the ball to all parts of the field.

At the end of the innings, Ross Powell was 156 not out and Saeed Williams was 117 not out.

The Basseterre Secondary School was then bowled out for a miserly 112 runs in 20.5 overs. Xavier Saunders top scored with 62 and Pahala scored 13.

For the CSS team, another Leeward Islands under 19 player, Kezron Archibald, bowled aggressively to bag 3 wickets for 40 runs, while Jamie Cornelius with his off spinners took 3 for 19.
CSS won by a mammoth 180 runs.

The semi final encounters in the series will now be played on Wednesday 22nd April when CSS takes on the Charles E. Mills high school at the ET Willet Park and the Gingerland Secondary School (GSS) will engage the Washington Archibald High School at a venue in St.Kitts.

The grand final, which will be a day/night encounter, will be played on Friday 24th April at Warner Park, commencing at 3:00 p.m.
