The tenth annual Fruit festival hosted by the Department of Agriculture was held on Main Street in Charlestown on Friday 31st July.
The tents housing the various vendors were centralized in the vicinity of the DR Walwyn Plaza and that entire portion of the main road was blocked off from vehicular traffic.
Vendors showed up with a wide variety of items which mainly featured local fruits as the main ingredients.
Hundreds of individuals attended and all seemed keen to sample the wide range of products.
One of the main features for the day’s activity, was the cake making competition.
Quite a number of persons participated and there were various sizes and shapes of cakes on display for the competition.
When the grand announcement of the winners was made by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Eric Evelyn,
Mrs. Sophia Wallace was the ultimate star as she won in two categories and placed third in the third category.
The final placements were as follows:

2nd—Jessups pastry making group
3rd –Lornette Webbe

There was also an ice cream competition which was adjudged as follows:

Best Homemade ice cream
The winners received trophies and packs of flour complements of the Agriculture Department and the East Caribbean group of companies.
