Georgetown, Guyana — St. Kitts and Nevis has been elected Vice Chair of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) Board of Directors, further strengthening the Federation’s role in shaping the region’s tourism agenda.
Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Marsha Henderson, represented St. Kitts and Nevis at the CTO meetings in Georgetown, Guyana, where the Federation was elected to the leadership position.
In its new capacity, St. Kitts and Nevis will represent CARICOM member countries alongside The Bahamas and will serve on the Executive Committee of the CTO Board of Directors.
The appointment provides St. Kitts and Nevis with an important platform to contribute to regional discussions and decision-making on the future of Caribbean tourism. It also creates opportunities to advance priorities that are critical to the Federation and the wider region, including developing the tourism workforce, building a more sustainable tourism industry, and strengthening linkages between tourism and local farmers, manufacturers, artisans, and creatives.
For a small Federation, the leadership role represents a significant opportunity to ensure that the perspectives and priorities of St. Kitts and Nevis and its Caribbean neighbours are reflected in regional tourism policy and strategy.
St. Kitts and Nevis extends congratulations to Honourable Charles “Max” Fernandez, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment of Antigua and Barbuda, on his appointment as the new Chairman of the CTO Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism.
Congratulations are also extended to Colin James, Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, who assumes the position of Chair of the CTO Board of Directors.
St. Kitts and Nevis also expresses appreciation to Honourable Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Tourism and International Transport of Barbados, and Andrea Franklin, Chief Executive Officer of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., for their leadership and service during Barbados’ tenure.
The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis looks forward to working collaboratively with CTO member countries and regional tourism stakeholders to advance a more resilient, sustainable, inclusive, and competitive Caribbean tourism industry.
