St. Kitts-Nevis Seizes New Means of Maintaining Its OECS Lead in Manufacturing Exports

(Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 24, 2013) For several years, St. Kitts-Nevis has led the nations of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) – plus Barbados – in the area of manufacturing exports.

In addition to maintaining its lead where the volume of exports is concerned, however, St. Kitts-Nevis is paying particular attention to the importance of expanding the range of products manufactured in the Federation as well.

In keeping with this objective, and mindful of the fact that solar energy has become increasingly attractive to consumers in the Caribbean and indeed around the world, St. Kitts-Nevis today became the first nation in the OECS to open a solar panel manufacturing plant in order both to meet local demand, as well as to capitalize on the growth potential in this market.

Speedtech Energy Ltd. will be manufacturing these panels for the local, regional, and Latin American markets, and will be playing an important role in the Government’s determination to wean the Federation from its traditional reliance on fossil fuels, and toward an economy that is fueled by renewable energy.
