St.Kitts-Nevis Treaty Of National Unity To Be Unveiled This Saturday January 31st In Charlestown

Political history will be made this Saturday, January 31st, 2015 as the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis prepare for General Elections on the February 16th, 2015; when the three political parties that form TEAM UNITY will sign the Treaty of National Unity. About two years ago the parties had signed a Memorandum of Understanding giving birth to TEAM UNITY. That was then formalized into the Treaty of National Unity, which will be signed this Saturday before and with the entire Nation as witness.

The Treaty lays out the need which gave rise to, the consensus for, the core values, and the shared responsibilities that will govern the alliance of the Concerned Citizens Movement, the Peoples Action Movement, and the People’s Labour Party, as TEAM UNITY seeks to administer the affairs of government for and on behalf of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. It also lays out the wider goals of a TEAM UNITY Government with respect Constitutional and Electoral Reform to ensure that future abuses of Government, as now being witnessed, do not take place in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The signing ceremony will take place on the apron of the High Court in Charlestown Nevis; beginning at 5:00 pm. The ceremony will be carried live on VON Radio (860 AM www.vonradio.com ), and all are invited to witness this momentous occasion in our Nation’s history. Copies of the Treaty of National Unity will be available electronically and in hard copy, in full and in condensed form immediately following the signing. Original copies of the document will also be vested with the public libraries in Charlestown and in Basseterre.

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be “Celebration of National Unity” that will feature popular entertainment acts from both islands; as well as presentations from the members of TEAM UNITY. Acts will be named in a subsequent release.
