GROS ISLET, Saint Lucia (CMC):
THE LONG-AWAITED National Aquatic Centre (NAC) is finally taking shape in Beauséjour, St Lucia, as work is now underway on the island.
The state-of-the-art facility, which will include an Olympic-sized 50-metre pool, has already secured a major milestone for the island, which will host the prestigious 2027 Carifta Aquatic Championships from March 27-31.
The announcement comes on the heels of St Lucia’s best-ever performance at the Carifta Aquatics Championships, where the team claimed 13 medals, including four gold from rising star Sapphire Parks in the 11-12 age group.
As host in 2027, St Lucia is expected to field its largest team yet, aiming to build on this success.
With an estimated 18-month construction timeline, the NAC could be ready in time to host next year’s OECS Swimming Championships.
