St. Lucia, India, OECS, Cuba extend independence 30 greetings to PM Douglas

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 18TH 2013 (CUOPM) – India’s Prime Minister the Right Hon. Manmohan Singh said he confident that under the leadership of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas “the bonds of friendship between our two countries will be further deepened.”

The Indian leader in a message to Prime Minister Douglas to mark the 30th Anniversary of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Independence, Prime Minister Singh said India and St. Kitts and Nevis enjoy warm and friendly relations characterized by a convergence of views on many internationals issues of common interest.

“The India-CARICOM dialogue process further consolidates our relationship,” he told Prime Minister Douglas.

St. Lucia’s Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony in his independence anniversary message said St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia have over the years “enjoyed and benefited from a mutual bond of friendship and cooperation at the bilateral level as well as through our efforts at integration within CARICOM and the OECS.”

It is his wish he added that both nations continue to do so in the face of various challenges that plague the Caribbean region.

“As the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis celebrate this historic milestone, I express sincerest best wishes for your continued health and prosperity as well as that of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and wish you continued success, peace and prosperity for the future,” said Prime Minister Anthony.

In its message to Prime Minister Douglas, the OECS Secretariat noted that the power to begin transforming the world in earnest begins at thirty, an age at which mankind attains his greatest strength.

“So too, should the nations of St. Kitts and Nevis, on this symbolic anniversary, attain new heights in its pursuit of prosperity, well being and security. May it take the opportunity to reflect on the lessons of the past, build on the achievement made, and surpass the highest expectations and aspirations of its people, now and into the future,” said the OECS Secretariat.

It added that it remains committed to advancing the developing goals, and improving the prospects of the proud people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Also extending congratulations to Prime Minister Douglas was the President of Cuba, His Excellency, Raùl Castro Ruz.
