Stevenson Manners Presents Books at Nevis Public Library’s Exhibition

It was indeed a moment for the history books.

It appeared as if the hands of the clock stood still in revered silence, as a newly published author, Stevenson Manners, presented a copy of his just-released book, ‘The father, son and Offsprings,’ to one of Nevis’ most celebrated sons, Elquemedo Willet.

The venue was the conference room of the Nevis Public Library in Charlestown and the occasion was the commencement of the Nevis Public Library’s Cricket exhibition, which is also the brainchild of Mr. Manners, in collaboration with the Librarian and her staff.

On this day, Monday 13th February 2023, Mr. Manners gave a synopsis of the book, which details the cricketing history of Nevis, from 1945 to 2023 and features significant cricketers who have made their mark locally and on the world stage.

Manners also presented a copy of his book to Ms. Tessa Howell, the granddaughter of the acknowledged ‘Father of Nevis Cricket,’ Mr. John E. Howell and to two winners of a previous quiz-Carl Manners and Iona Dore.

He then presented two books to Permanent Secretary of Education and Sports et al, Mr. Kevin Barrett-one for the Nevis Public Library and the other for the Sports Museum.

Mr. Barrett for his part congratulated Mr. Manners on his monumental achievement and took time out to salute Mr. Willet for his tremendous achievements, through the years.

He also presented a copy of the book to Sports journalist, Curtis Morton, for his unwavering dedication to sports coverage on the island, over the years.

Deputy Librarian, Ms. Glenda Claxton delivered opening remarks and the vote of thanks

The Library’s exhibition will run until the 10th of March, Mondays to Saturdays and the general public is cordially invited to view the exhibits.
