Table Tennis Coaching Clinic Serves Off

Monday 30th July saw the commencement of a Table Tennis coaching clinic, coordinated by the Youth and Sports Department.
It was yet another in the series of activities, geared towards the Primary and Secondary school children, as they continue to enjoy their long vacation period.
The sessions in Table Tennis are being held at the Bath Village Community Center.
Sports officer, Curtis Morton Jr gave welcoming remarks and commended the fifteen young participants for making the choice to learn the game and then handed over the proceedings to long serving coach and Vice President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Table Tennis Association, Mr. Urban Freeman.
Mr. Freeman thanked the Youth and Sports Department for allowing him to assist in the development of the Sport on the island.
He indicated that after the completion of the coaching clinic, the plan is for the local coaches to take the game to the schools and to the various communities across the island.
He expects an in-house competition within the schools, for starters; followed by an inter schools competition and this will be followed by matches between players from Nevis and players from St. Kitts.
He is even planning for a bigger tournament for adult players and noted that every day he would be working on developing the skills of the coaches, as he plans to invite some of them to participate in a grand tournament to be held in St. Kitts, sometime in September of this year, which will see the federation’s finest, in action.
Day one, then saw the children being led in warm up exercises and then some sessions which saw them intently trying to balance the ball on the racket or bouncing the ball onto the racket, sometimes in a standing position and at other times, while in motion.
A number of the local coaches are assisting with the program and are expected to be part of the major tournament planned for September.
