The brief but significant ceremony was held at the Long Point Port’s parking lot and the Ambassador who was accompanied by other officials from his consulate, noted that the gift was a reflection of the Taiwanese people’s love for the people of Nevis.

“This truck is donated by Tainan County…It demonstrates the love of people from Taiwan to Nevis. It also represents the perpetually close collaboration and enduring friendship between our two countries and people,” he said.

Ambassador Tsao also explained, that as a partner and strong diplomatic ally of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) spared no effort to work with the government and people of the Federation in its infrastructure and national development through the implementation of cooperative projects in various fields among them agriculture, renewable energy, [information communications technology] ITC programmes, tourism and education.

The Ambassador also spoke to the most recent initiative for Nevis in the area of human resource development.

“Last week with our joint effort and coordination, we had 15 St. Kitts and Nevis students who received scholarships to study in Taiwan. Four of them are from Nevis island and one Nevisian will pursue study in Medicine. That is a record-breaking number with a new high.

“In this regard, I would like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to Hon. Premier Amory, Deputy Premier Mark Brantley and your Administration for your assistance in promoting the scholarship to all the Nevisians,” he said.

Ambassador Tsao also registered his satisfaction with the island’s cleanliness and beauty.

“Every time I come to Nevis, I’m impressed by the clean streets and beautiful scenery. That’s the reason why Nevis is dubbed the Queen of the Caribees. To be candid, St. Kitts and Nevis, the twin island are breathtaking.

“I do believe, with the new [addition] of this refuse truck, it will be more conducive to keep Nevis island more beautiful and clean,” he said.

In conclusion, the Ambassador thanked Tainan County and all others who made the gift a reality for extending their hand of love and friendship to Nevis.

“Allow me to say thanks to the Tainan County for sharing love and friendship from afar to Nevis. To Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and St. Kitts and Nevis for providing the channel and avenue to make the event happen,” he said.
