Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM- Jan 6th ):-Leader of Team UNITY Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris has announced his movemenet’s commitment to assist and support local sports, entertainment and cultural personalities in the Federation.
In his New Years Address Harris declared that the historic Team UNITY Government will provide the support necessary for these groups and individuals to make a living from their talents.
Dr. Harris said “You must know that in 2015 it will be a new beginning for you and your families but also a new beginning in St. Kitts and Nevis. This new beginning will support them(Young People, Artistes,Sports and Entertainment Personalities) in making a living from the practice of their gifts and talents in culture, entertainment, sports and music.”
“The national community has for long been concerned about the unsatisfactory support being provided to our sporting icons and those of our rising entertainers like Nicha B, Infamus, Highlight etc. Persons have been arguing that the StKitts and Nevis Music Festival should be reoriented to showcase and support more local talents and culture. Team Unity shares those popular concerns and believes that our cultural , sporting and entertainment industries must be managed in such a way as to allow our people to share in the prosperity. Team Unity plans to take the people and residents of St Kitts and Nevis along the path of opportunity, inclusive growth and development,” Dr. Harris continued
The industries of sport, entertainment and culture are all considered some of the most booming sectors globally. The new Team UNITY government will seek to capitalize on this by employing the services of our top Sports, Entertainment and Cultural Personalities who will assist and work with the Ministry of Tourism, the St.Kitts and Nevis Tourism Authority and the Department of Culture, to help promote the destination in the Caribbean, North American and European markets. They will also assist in the development of Sports and Culture in the schools all while facilitating their pursuits as Cultural, Sports or Entertainment Professionals. Some of these Local Artistes will be employed as or simply engaged and recognised in various capacities from Envoys to Ambassadors.
The naming of these special Sports, Cultural and Entertainment Ambassadors and Envoys will be selected periodically and the list will be updated with a periodic review of the list through evaluation.
