Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM- Jan 5th ):-The election of the Historic Team UNITY government will see the introduction of a number of initiatives that will significantly and positively impact the development and prosperity of all.
Among these initiatives is the introduction of a Rent Assessment Board. In his New Year’s Address Team UNITY Leader Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris announced the introduction of a Rent Assessment BOARD under the historic Team UNITY government.
Dr. Harris said “You must know that in 2015 it will be a new beginning for you and your families but also a new beginning in St. Kitts and Nevis. This new beginning will put the people first. This new beginning will put the people on a road to prosperity. This new beginning will bring change for the better and not more of the same. This new beginning will introduce a Rent Assessment Board to ensure fairness in rent adjustments and in the relations between landlords and tenants.”
The Rent Assessment Board Bill and accompanying regulations will establish a modern framework grounding the relations between tenants and landlords. It will address calls for greater fairness, and transparency in the system. Issues such as arbitrary and unjust increases in rent, maintenance of property, reasonable access to property by landlords, and the rights and duties of landlords and tenants will be covered by legislation after consultation with landlords, tenants and other stakeholders.
