The “Improving Environmental Management through Sustainable Land Management in St. Kitts and Nevis” Project announces the call for scholarship applications under the Project’s Scholarship Initiative

The Improving Environmental Management through Sustainable Land Management in St. Kitts and Nevis Project is being implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Sustainable Development with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as the Implementing Agency and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as the Executing Agency. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Under the project, Civil Servants of St. Kitts and Nevis are invited to apply for Scholarships to pursue a Master’s Degree at any accredited university of their choice. Six (6) fully funded scholarships will be awarded for programs that commence in 2023.

Scholarships shall not exceed two (2) consecutive years inclusive of a thesis, and the maximum scholarship amount to be granted shall not exceed US$26,250.00 (inclusive of all related expenses and costs) per academic year.

The Master’s Degree programs MUST be in one of the following five (5) prioritized thematic areas for the project:
a) Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
b) Land Use Planning
c) Sustainable Land Management
d) Climate Change and/or Climate Smart Agriculture
e) Environmental Management or Ecosystem Restoration
Award Eligibility
To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:
• Be a citizen of St. Kitts & Nevis, has no other nationality, and be a resident in St. Kitts & Nevis
• Be between 23-45 years of age.
• Preferably have at least 3 years of professional experience in the proposed field of study
• Be accepted into a graduate study program that does not exceed two (2) years, at a recognized institution within one of the thematic areas or fields listed above. In the absence of acceptance letters, letters from the institution of interest may be provided by the institution to confirm that the prospective student has commenced the application process.
• Be an employee of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis for at least the last 3 consecutive years

• Demonstrate a minimum semester GPA of 3.5 on a 4-point scale, or the equivalent, for the last period in which the applicant was engaged in academic study
• Commit to working in the Government Service in St. Kitts & Nevis for at least three (3) consecutive years at the end of the study period
• Not have more than one scholarship or grant ongoing simultaneously
• Be ready to take up the scholarship and pursue the prescribed course of study in 2023
