Thirty-One Applicants Begin 2026 Prospective Teachers’ Course on Nevis

JESSUPS, NEVIS – Thirty-one aspiring educators officially commenced their journey into the teaching profession as the 2026 Prospective Teachers’ Course opened at the Jessups Community Centre.

The participants were welcomed by the Hon. Troy Liburd, who expressed his enthusiasm at seeing a new cohort of individuals committed to serving the nation’s children and contributing to the future of education on Nevis.

Held under the theme, “Beyond the Blackboard: Reaching Every Learner,” the course is designed to equip prospective teachers with the foundational knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to meet the diverse needs of students and foster excellence in the classroom.

Addressing the participants, Minister Liburd encouraged them to embrace the opportunity with dedication, professionalism, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

“This course marks the beginning of an important and rewarding journey,” he said. “As future educators, you have the unique responsibility of shaping minds, inspiring dreams, and helping every learner realize his or her full potential. Minister Liburd also expressed appreciation to the individuals and teams responsible for organizing and facilitating the programme. He extended thanks to Principal Education Officer Ms Londa Brown, Course Coordinator Miss Tamu Reid, members of the Department of Education, and all facilitators for their dedication and continued investment in teacher development.

The Prospective Teachers’ Course serves as an important preparatory programme for individuals seeking to enter the teaching profession and reflects the Department of Education’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the quality of education across the island.
