Representatives of the Tobago House of Assembly – Legislature, currently in Saint Kitts and Nevis on a Regional Study Tour, continued their engagements with the Federation’s legislative institutions, meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Honourable Lanein Blanchette, on Wednesday, November 04, for discussions on constitutional powers, parliamentary functions, and legislative procedures.

The delegation also met with the Attorney General, the Honourable Garth Wilkin, for discussions on the Federation’s legislative framework, lawmaking processes, and the work of the National Assembly. The engagement provided members of the visiting delegation with valuable insights into the legislative landscape of Saint Kitts and Nevis, particularly the role of the Attorney General in the formulation and development of legislation and in advancing the country’s legal and governance framework.

During the October 23 sitting of the National Assembly, Attorney General Wilkin highlighted the legislative achievements of the current administration, disclosing that since the opening of Parliament on October 25, 2022, a total of 101 Bills had been passed by the National Assembly.

The Regional Study Tour, which runs from October 31 to November 06, provides participating students and teachers with an opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the operations of parliamentary institutions and the role of young people in shaping public life.

For members of the Tobago Legislative staff, the visit also presents a valuable opportunity to engage with regional counterparts, exchange knowledge and experiences, strengthen professional relationships, and explore avenues for mutual cooperation.

The engagements further facilitate a greater understanding of the respective legislative frameworks and parliamentary systems of both jurisdictions, while fostering regional ties, encouraging the sharing of best practices in legislative governance, and promoting continued collaboration among Caribbean legislative institutions.
